Are you struggling to get regular exercise throughout the week? Then
you’re in luck because new studies have suggested that working out for 2.5
hours on the weekends may yield the same result, as intense exercise for
multiple hours. When you get your exercise, or how long you work out at a time,
is less important than getting a cumulative 150 minutes (or more) throughout
the week.
Recently, researchers from the Massachusetts
General Hospital analyzed the data of 89,573 adults from the UK who each used
an accelerometer – a device that records their movement, to track their
activities for a week. The most recent study
suggests that if you're going to fit all your exercise into the weekend, you'll
need to log about two and half hours in those one or two days.
The study concluded that those who exercise
generally had a lower risk of strokes and heart diseases than those who don’t.
However, the result doesn’t seem to differ between those who worked out regularly
throughout the week and those who did their exercise in one or two big
sessions.
With many people becoming busier and busier day
by day, cramming your workout into the weekend is a common habit. Every bit of
exercise can boost your health and fitness.
